Reviews from The Anne Boleyn Experience 2018

The best part of the tour was the fact that I didn't need to drive anywhere. If Kristen and I had rented a car to visit the sites on the tour, it would have been a dreadful, confusing, time-consuming, white knuckle experience ever mile of the way. Of the two of us, Kristen is the big Anne Boleyn enthusiast; I tagged along for the ride. What a ride! The accommodations were luxurious. The meals were fantastic. My interest in the Tudors is that of a dilettante but there is so much more to the tour which you arranged that it simply didn't matter. Anyone who has even a modicum of interest in art, history, architecture, geometry, technological development, gardening, and fun would enjoy the tour you arranged. Words fail me to describe how terrific a job I think you did. Kristen and I both had a blast. This was the sort of experience that produces memories that last far longer than any recollection of expense. Well done!

This is our first British History Tour and we hated to say goodbye. My husband surprised me with this trip since I LOVE the History of the Tudors. It was a dream come true. Not only were the accommodations above what we could of expected but the itinerary was out of this world. We have met so many wonderful new friends from all over the world and we will cherish their friendship and the memories we made for the rest of our lives!! This is definitely not the last trip with British History Tours and Philippa

My husband and I celebrated my birthday on the Anne Boleyn Experience tour led by Philippa Lacey Brewell’s British History Tours and Claire Ridgeway (Anne Boleyn Files and the Tudor Society) and it was one of the most memorable trips of our lives. We stayed in the stunning Astor Wing of Hever Castle and had private after-hours tours of the castle and grounds. We took day trips with specialized guided tours to Hampton Court and the Tower of London and had plenty of additional time to wander around on our own. Breakfast, dinner, amazing guest speakers, and museum entry were all included. It was such a dream to commemorate the life and untimely death of Queen Anne Boleyn and we could and would not have done it without the hard work and wonderful organization skills of Philippa and the Tudor expertise of Claire. I cannot recommend British History Tours enough!!!

This was my first British History Tour, I wasn’t sure how this tour would differ from my previous tours. Everything has absolutely exceeded my expectations and I was in complete awe with each aspect the tour provided for the group. We had such a fabulous group in the tour and I had an amazing and informative experience that I will cherish in many ways. I have gained a deep and intimate historical experience about Anne Boleyn whilst meeting some of the most amazing people that I was so very lucky to share this wonderful trip with. This was a fabulous time that any and every history lover must be apart of. It truly is very magical and meaningful.

Another happy customer of the Anne Boleyn Experience - the tour was well organized and well structured, and the group was just amazing. This will not be my last trip with Philippa and Claire!

The trip Tina and I took to the UK and Hever Castle was………amazing! You both made the experience incredibly memorable, and it really far exceeded our expectations. Tina is the Tudor scholar in our household, I got this for her “Big” birthday. However, I learned sooo much on this trip, it has ignited my curiosity to learn more.

What did we do on The Anne Boleyn Experience 2018?

We stayed at Anne Boleyn’s home for the duration of this 4 night Anne Boleyn Experience tour focusing on the life and death of Queen Anne Boleyn, second wife of King Henry VIII. We had exclusive use of the entire Astor Wing where we dined for 3 nights, the final night we dined at the 14th century lodge, now pub restaurant, the Wheatsheaf.

After time to settle into our luxurious bedrooms, guest met for dinner in our private dining suite before a talk from the fantastic Gareth Russell.

Our first full day was spent at Hever Castle enjoying the castle and gardens before a talk on Tudor costume from expert Bess Chilvers. Two of our party were able to experience being dressed in Tudor dress as Bess used them to demonstrate all the different parts of a Tudor woman's dress! Before dinner we met in the castle for a prossecco drinks reception (with a surprise visit from Henry VIII - aka Owen George) and were then taken on a private, after hours tour of the castle.

On our third day we visited the ever impressive Hampton Court Palace for a guided tour and free time to explore the palace. After our 4 course meal, Claire Ridgway gave us a talk on the 'Men of 1536' about the men who were fatally caught up in Anne's downfall.

On our last full day we travelled to the Tower of London and to the site of Anne's execution to pay our respects and learn more about her time at the Tower before having free time to visit the rest of the tower and the Crown Jewels!

Whilst staying at Hever Castle, our group had use of the grounds even after hours and were free to roam and explore. We were also able to use the outdoor heated swimming pool!

Hever truly is a magical place and we can't wait to be back there! You can join us there on The Anne Boleyn Experience - May 2019 and the Executed Queens tour - July 2019.

This tour was led by Claire Ridgway of The Anne Boleyn Files and The Tudor Society and Philippa Lacey Brewell of British History Tours and British History with Philippa Lacey Brewell.
