The name William Shakespeare and the fame of his work endures, even 400 years after his death. He died in the same town in which he was born, Stratford-upon-Avon, in Warwickshire. This beautiful and historic town, sat on the swan-filled River Avon, is the perfect place to explore the man and his work.
Dr Katrina Marchant, a Shakespeare scholar and presenter of 'Reading the Past' channel on YouTube, is the lead historian for this weekend tour.
You can expect all the luxury and quality of one of our longer tours on this, our first, short tour.
Meet in Stratford upon Avon at The Arden Hotel. This beautiful hotel, a favourite of the stars, will be our base for the weekend.
A welcome reception will be followed by our first talk of the weekend, from Dr Katrina Marchant, about Shakeapeare's time in Stratford upon Avon and the significance of the places we will be visiting, to his life and work.
A pre-theatre dinner will be followed by a show at the Royal Shakespeare Company, only a 'stones throw' from our hotel.
Today you will get to visit the places within Stratford upon Avon, most strongly associated with William Shakespeare; his birthplace, schoolroom and grave. There will be some free time in the middle of the day for you to get lunch in the town.
This evening's talk from Dr Kat Marchant will be a focus on the play which we will have seen on the previous night (which production we will be seeing will be confirmed once the theatre has released their programme).
We will then enjoy a 3-course dinner at The Arden hotel.
Our final talk for this weekend tour from Dr Kat will take a delve into Shakespeare beyond Stratford; the player, the playwright and what his life in London may have looked like.
We then say our final farewells.
