One incredible woman finds her voice through another!
"Julian's deceptively simple words...exist outside time and will always ring true.."Dr Janina Ramirez
Before reading this book I didn't know who Julian of Norwich was, how to pronounce her name, what being an anchorite entailed or how relevant she is to us now!
Janina effortlessly (to the reader at least) guides us through the religious, political and social world in which Julian lived and wrote her 'Revelations of Divine Love'. She weaves through her analysis of Julians' life and motivations for becoming an anchorite with a logic so easy to follow that when I read this to my children, who are 11 and 8 years old, as their bedtime story they listened along intently (what can I say? Busy mum killing 2 birds with 1 stone).
Janina introduces us to Julians' words in a way that demonstrates not only the incredible foresight of this woman, who lived at the turn of the 15th century, but also challenges our perceptions that those who came before us were somehow ignorant to their place in a wider world; physically and through time.
This may be a 'brief history' but it packs a historical punch and shouts out to the world about Julian and her work to make us sit up and listen to her voice through that of Dr Ramirez!
